Where you enter commands
There are two places where commands arrive:
- In the game via the chat. Commands start with a slash, for example
/time. You need the right permissions - when in doubt, operator status. - In the console in the web interface. There you always have full rights, even when you are not in the game. In the console, you can leave out the slash.
The console is mainly there for two situations: for the very first admin, who has to grant themselves rights, and for interventions while you are not playing - such as kicking a troublemaker while you are on the road. How to give yourself admin rights is explained in Become an admin.
The server itself shows you the complete list, including subcommands and examples: /help. Because Hytale is under continuous development in early access, that list is always more up to date than any overview on the web - including this one.

Managing and moderating players
| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
/op add Name | make a player an operator, alternatively with UUID |
/op remove Name | take operator rights away |
/perm | manage permissions for groups and individual users |
/kick Name | throw a player off the server, they can come back right away |
/ban Name | ban a player permanently |
/unban Name | lift a ban |
/whitelist | switch the whitelist on and off, add or remove players |
/gamemode | change a player's game mode |
/tp | teleport to a position or a player |
/give | give items to a player |
/heal | restore health and stamina |
/sudo | run a command on behalf of another player |
Kick and ban differ in effect: a kick is a warning, and the player can rejoin directly. A ban is stored in bans.json and applies until the /unban. For a closed group, the whitelist is usually a better route than banning after the fact - see Whitelist and password.
Controlling the world and environment
| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
/time | change the time of day in the world |
/weather | change the weather |
/world | manage the server's worlds |
/spawning | settings around NPC spawning |
/chunk | information about chunks and how they load |
/block | query and set block states |
/fluid | control fluids at a spot or within a radius |
/path | manage patrol paths for NPCs |
/spawn | teleport to the world's spawn point |
/warp | create and use teleport points |
Many of these settings can also be fixed permanently instead of setting them by command after every restart. PvP, fall damage, NPC spawning or a paused game time are stored in the config.json of each individual world. Which switches exist there is explained in Hytale server settings.
Building: selection, copying, prefabs
Hytale comes with building tools that operators can use directly in the game. The basic principle: first you mark an area with two corner points, then you work with that selection.
| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
/pos1, /pos2 | set the corner points of the selection |
/copy | copy the selection to the clipboard |
/cut | cut the selection |
/paste | paste the clipboard |
/fillblocks | fill the air in the selection with a block type |
/replace | replace blocks in the selection with another type |
/undo | undo the most recent changes |
/prefab | save, load, delete or list buildings as prefabs |
/editprefab | edit prefabs or create new ones |
/replace and /fillblocks in particular change thousands of blocks with one command. /undo usually catches a slip, but for big rebuilds a copy of the world of your own is still recommended beforehand - how that works is in Create a backup.
Commands for all players
A few commands are meant for everyday use and, depending on how you assign permissions, useful for regular players too:
/help- all commands you can use with your permissions./whoami- your own player information, including the UUID. Handy when the admin needs to put you on the whitelist./ping- latency to the server. Helps answer whether stuttering comes from the connection or from the server./emote- play an emote./mount- dismount or check your mount status.
Which player may use which command is controlled via /perm and the permissions.json file.
Server and updates
You shut the server down with /stop. With us, though, it is better to use the buttons in the web interface for restarts, since they also show the state of the server. Recurring restarts, for example at night, are set up in the task scheduler.
Hytale also comes with its own update commands, for example /update status for the current version. On our servers, you do not need them, because new Hytale versions are applied automatically. What happens in the background during an update is explained in Update your Hytale server. You manage plugins with /plugin; how they get onto the server in the first place is in Install mods and plugins.
