Enshrouded Server Hosting All 16 slots in every plan

Rent an Enshrouded server and clear the Shroud from Embervale together: your world runs around the clock in our data center instead of on the host's PC. Every plan allows the full 16 players the game supports - you pay for performance, not for slots. You set the difficulty and rules yourself and grant permissions through user groups with their own password. Located in Germany, DDoS protection up to 250 Gbit/s.

Embervale no longer waits for the host

Enshrouded can be played with friends straight from inside the game. The world then lives on the computer of whoever started it: if they are offline, the shared base stands still, and nobody can keep building at the Flame Altar or explore the next region on their own. A dedicated server turns that around. The world runs continuously in the data center, everyone in the group joins whenever they like, and the progress belongs to the whole group.

This matters a lot in Enshrouded because the world is made of voxels: every hole in a mountain, every tunnel and every wall is saved and sent to all players. On a friend's PC, that competes with their own game for processor and bandwidth. On a server of its own, the world has the performance to itself, and everyone plays with the same low latency.

On top of that comes what only a server of your own offers: difficulty and game rules to your taste, user groups that allow friends more than guests, and a ban list for troublemakers.

The difference

  • World runs 24/7, even without you
  • Equally low ping for everyone
  • No PC that has to keep running
  • Your own rules and difficulty
  • Permissions per user group

Why we don't sell slots

Many Enshrouded offers charge by slots: 4, 6, 8 or 10 players, and if you later want to play with more people, you have to move to a more expensive plan. That ladder has little to do with what an Enshrouded server actually needs. Keen Games gives precise figures in its server FAQ: when idle, the server uses around 4.4 GB of memory, each player adds up to 100 MB, and in total it should not exceed about 6 GB.

Going from four to sixteen players therefore costs hardly any memory. What really grows with the number of players is the load on the processor: enemies, weather, water, workbenches and a world that constantly changes through digging and building all have to be calculated for every player. Keen therefore scales its own recommendation only through the CPU and relies on high clock speed - single-thread performance counts for more than the sheer number of cores.

Our plans are built exactly that way. In every one of them you can set up to 16 players, the game's maximum. The plans differ in computing power and in how much space there is for saves. Even the entry plan, with 6 GB, is above what the server needs and leaves headroom for load peaks.

What an Enshrouded server needs

  • RAM when idle: around 4.4 GB
  • Per player: up to 100 MB more
  • Full server: about 6 GB
  • Server files: around 13 GB, 30 GB free recommended
  • Bottleneck with many players: the CPU

Figures according to Keen Games' dedicated server FAQ. When slots and when performance tip the balance is explained in Game server slots explained.

Rules, permissions and saves in your hands

An Enshrouded server is controlled through a single file, enshrouded_server.json. With the config editor, WebFTP and SFTP you have it and your save under control at all times:

Difficulty presets

With gameSettingsPreset you choose between Default, Relaxed, Hard and Survival - from relaxed building with fewer enemies to a tough survival run.

Custom rules

With the Custom preset you adjust dozens of values individually: health, stamina, enemy strength, resource yield, plant growth, experience, length of day and night. Important: the values in gameSettings only apply with Custom.

User groups

Instead of a single server password there are groups, each with its own password. Per group you decide who may kick and ban, open chests, change the terrain or build and extend bases.

Reserved slots

With reservedSlots you keep slots free for a group even when the server is otherwise full. That way your regular group always gets in, even when guests are online.

Bring your save

Upload your existing world via WebFTP or SFTP to the savegame folder. Stop the server first, upload the save, restart - and carry on where you left off.

Backups in your hands

You can download the savegame folder and enshrouded_server.json via WebFTP or SFTP at any time - ideally before big updates and before changing the rules.

One tip up front: Enshrouded writes its settings back to the configuration file when it shuts down. So only edit it while the server is stopped - otherwise your changes are gone after the next stop. And because the whole file is read as one JSON document, even a missing comma prevents the start; the console then names the faulty spot.

Which plan suits your group?

All plans allow 16 players. How smoothly the server runs with many players depends on computing power and play style: a group that travels together puts less load on the server than one that spreads out in different directions at the same time and keeps loading new areas. Guideline values:

Play style Description Suitable plan
Two to four players A small group playing the story together and building a base around the Flame Altar. Enshrouded S
Regular group Five to eight people who join at different times and explore separately from each other. Enshrouded M
Full group Up to 16 players at the same time - the maximum Enshrouded allows. Enshrouded L
Large build projects Many bases, fully equipped workshops and players moving into new areas at the same time. Enshrouded XL

You can upgrade yourself at any time in the customer interface, and your save and configuration are kept. How requirements compare across games is shown in How much RAM do I need?, prices and recommendations per plan are in How much does an Enshrouded server cost?.

All features of your Enshrouded server

World around the clock

Your server runs permanently in the data center - everyone in the group can keep building and exploring without the host having to be online.

16 players in every plan

No surcharge per slot: you set up to 16 players, the game's maximum, yourself in every plan. The plans differ in computing power and storage.

High single-thread performance

Enshrouded benefits more from the clock speed of one core than from many cores. Our game server hosts are designed for exactly that.

Presets & custom rules

Default, Relaxed, Hard or Survival - or every value individually with Custom, from enemy strength to the length of a day.

Password-protected user groups

Admins, friends and guests with their own password and their own permissions. Reserved slots keep access open for your regular group.

Your own save

Upload your world from an earlier session via WebFTP or SFTP to the savegame folder and carry on seamlessly.

WebFTP & SFTP

Full access to save, configuration and logs - in the browser via the file manager or with an SFTP client.

Console & task scheduler

The server console runs in your browser. Schedule fixed restart times and recurring tasks in the task scheduler.

Subusers

Give friends access to the web interface - with exactly the permissions they need, without sharing your customer account.

Automatic updates

After an Enshrouded patch, your server is updated automatically. Save and configuration are kept.

DDoS protection

Our DDoS protection filters out attacks of up to 250 Gbit/s so your world stays reachable.

Frequently asked questions - Enshrouded

Enshrouded itself allows up to 16 players in one world - no server can do more. With us, these 16 slots are available in every plan, and you set the number yourself in the game server panel under startup parameters. We don't sell slots; the plans differ in computing power and storage. The recommendation on each plan is therefore a guideline for smooth play, not a limit.

According to Keen Games, the server uses around 4.4 GB of memory when idle, each player adds up to 100 MB, and in total it should not exceed about 6 GB. Unlike many other games, memory is rarely the bottleneck in Enshrouded - with many players it is mainly the processor that is challenged. The 16 GB Keen lists in its hardware recommendations refer to a complete computer with an operating system, not to the server process. Our entry plan has 6 GB; the larger plans mainly add computing power.

For a full group with up to 16 players at the same time, we recommend plan L. Keen scales its own hardware recommendation only through the CPU, and that is exactly where L adds power compared with the smaller plans. XL is worth it when many players move into new areas at the same time, the group runs large bases with many workshops or you want to keep several saves on the server. You can upgrade yourself at any time in the customer interface; save and configuration are kept.

In the Enshrouded main menu via Join Game: search the server list for the name of your server and enter the password of a user group. You find the fixed server address made of IP and port in the web interface after provisioning. Enshrouded's default port is 15637 - with us, the port assigned to your server always applies. Players don't need to open any ports on their home router.

With the user groups. Each group has its own password, and only those who know one of them get in. You enter the passwords in the game server panel under startup parameters, and the permissions of each group in enshrouded_server.json: whether its members may kick and ban, open chests and inventories, change the terrain or build and extend bases. With reservedSlots you keep slots free for a group; banned players go into bannedAccounts. Change the default passwords before you share the address, and only edit the file while the server is stopped.

Yes. With gameSettingsPreset you choose one of the presets Default, Relaxed, Hard or Survival. With the Custom preset you set the values in the gameSettings block individually, such as health, stamina, enemy and boss strength, resource yield, plant growth, experience and the length of day and night. Two pitfalls: the values in gameSettings are only read with Custom, and the length of day and night is given in nanoseconds - one hour is 3600000000000.

Yes. An Enshrouded server keeps its save in the savegame folder. Stop the server, upload the files of your existing world there via WebFTP or SFTP and restart. Download the current contents of the folder beforehand so you can switch back if needed.

No, not at the moment. Enshrouded 1.0 was released on October 15, 2026 without crossplay: PC and PlayStation 5 are separate player pools, and PS5 players cannot connect to a PC server. Keen has postponed the Xbox version to 2027. According to Keen, crossplay is in development, but there is no date. Our server is for the PC version on Steam.

Yes. After a patch, your server is updated automatically, and your save and configuration are kept. Before large content updates it is still worth keeping your own copy of the savegame folder so you can go back to the old state if necessary.

Backups are in your hands: download the savegame folder and enshrouded_server.json via WebFTP or SFTP from time to time - especially before large updates and before you change the rules or groups. There is no automatic backup by us. In return, you have full access to all files at any time and decide yourself which state to keep.

Keen Games does not offer official mod support for Enshrouded. Your server therefore runs the game as released, and we don't set up a mod loader. What you can adjust without mods is extensive: difficulty, enemies, resources, experience, day and night as well as the permissions of every user group.

After a successful order, our automated system activates your server in around 120 seconds. Then you set the server name and group passwords, share the name with your friends, and off you go to Embervale.
