A server that doesn't wait for the host

Hytale can also be shared with friends straight from the game. But then the world lives on one player's computer: if they are offline, Orbis is closed to everyone else, and everybody plays with the latency of that one connection. A dedicated server turns this around - the world runs continuously in the data center, and anyone in the group can join whenever they like.

We don't sell slots. You set how many players may join at the same time yourself in config.json. What a plan can really handle depends on how people play: Hypixel names many players and entities as the driver of CPU load and a large loaded world area as the driver of memory use.

The most important lever is the view distance. Hypixel recommends limiting it to a maximum of 12 chunks - that is 384 blocks. For comparison: a Minecraft server looks 160 blocks ahead by default. If you play with the full view distance and have many explorers heading in different directions, you need more RAM accordingly.

On top of that you get what only your own server offers: a whitelist for your group, graded permissions for moderators and mods that run the same for every player.

The difference

  • World runs 24/7, even without you
  • Equally low ping for everyone
  • No PC that has to keep running
  • Whitelist and permissions for your group
  • Mods run the same for everyone

Worlds, mods and permissions in your hands

A Hytale server has a clear structure: worlds, mods and settings live in clearly named folders and JSON files. With the web file manager, SFTP and the config editor you have all of it under control:

Mods without detours

Mods go into the mods folder as .zip or .jar - restart, done. Hytale relies on server-side modding, so your players usually don't have to install anything themselves.

Multiple worlds

All worlds of your server sit side by side under universe/worlds. Each has its own config.json with seed, PvP, fall damage and NPC spawns.

Move your world

Upload your existing world to the universe folder via the web file manager or SFTP. Stop the server first, and keep world and server on the same game version.

Whitelist & bans

whitelist.json for a private group, bans.json for banned players. Edit both while the server is stopped - otherwise it overwrites your changes.

Hand out permissions

You decide who may moderate or build via permissions.json or with a command in the game. You can also give friends access to the web interface as sub-users.

Link it once

Hytale servers sign in with Hypixel before they accept players. On the first start, a link and a code appear in the console automatically - confirm them once with your Hytale account and you're done. No command needed.

World saved automatically

The world is backed up automatically on your server. For an external copy, download the universe folder and the JSON files via the web file manager or SFTP - for example before big updates and new mods.

Which plan fits your server?

Since slots are unlimited, play style, view distance and mod load decide which plan fits - not a number of players you pay for. Guideline values:

Server type Description Recommended plan
Vanilla with friends Unmodified Hytale in a small group: explore, build, take on dungeons - with a moderate view distance. Hytale S
Long-term world A world that grows over weeks, with players exploring large areas separately from each other. Hytale M
Modded Mods and plugins from the mods folder: new blocks, creatures, game mechanics or admin tools. Hytale L
Community server Many concurrent players, several worlds in the same universe, separate rules per world. Hytale L / XL
Minigames Custom game modes via plugins - many players and entities at the same time, so mostly CPU load. Hytale XL

You can upgrade yourself at any time in the customer interface, and your worlds and configuration are kept. Prices and a recommendation per plan are on What does a Hytale server cost?.

Everything your Hytale server can do

World around the clock

Your server runs continuously in the data center - anyone in the group can keep playing without a particular computer having to be online.

Unlimited slots

No price per player: you set the maximum number of players yourself. The plans differ in memory and performance.

Mods & plugins

Mods and plugins go into the mods folder - uploaded via the web file manager or SFTP. From convenience plugins to your own game mode, everything is possible.

Multiple worlds

Building world, PvP world and event world in one universe - each with its own rules for PvP, fall damage and NPCs.

Whitelist & permissions

A private group via whitelist, troublemakers via ban list, moderators via permission management - all in their own JSON files.

Java 25 included

The Hytale server needs Java 25. We have set it up for you - you don't have to deal with the runtime or startup parameters.

Web file manager & SFTP

Full access to worlds, configuration and mods - in the browser via the file manager or with an SFTP client.

Console & task scheduler

The server console runs live in your browser, and you send commands directly. Plan fixed restart times in the task scheduler.

Automatic updates

Hytale only allows connections when client and server use exactly the same version. That is why your server is updated automatically - worlds, configuration and mods are kept.

DDoS protection

Our DDoS protection filters out attacks of up to 250 Gbit/s, so your server stays reachable even as it becomes better known.

Made in Germany

Your Hytale server runs in our data center near Frankfurt am Main - low latency for players across Europe.

Frequently asked questions - Hytale

We don't sell slots: you set the maximum number of players yourself in your server's config.json, and our plans differ in memory and performance. How many players run smoothly depends mainly on how they play. Hypixel names two drivers: many concurrent players and entities such as NPCs and creatures put load on the CPU, while a large loaded world area - high view distance, players exploring separately - puts load on memory. The recommendation on each plan is therefore a guideline, not a limit.

Hypixel lists 4 GB of memory as the minimum requirement. The biggest lever is the view distance: Hytale loads much further than Minecraft, and every additional chunk around every player costs memory. The entry plan is enough for a small vanilla group; for a grown world with many explorers or a mod collection you should go one level higher. A typical sign of too little memory, by the way, is rising CPU load, because Java then constantly cleans up memory. You can upgrade yourself at any time in the customer interface, and your world and configuration are kept.

Hytale servers have to sign in with Hypixel's services before they accept players - that is how the developer wants to curb abuse. You don't need a command for it: on the first start, the console in the web interface automatically shows a link and a code. You open the link, sign in with your Hytale account and confirm the code - then the server starts fully and accepts connections. You never enter your password on the server.

Via the fixed server address made of IP and port, which you find in the web interface after provisioning. Your friends enter this address in Hytale's multiplayer menu. Hytale's default port is 5520 - with us, the port assigned to your server always applies. Hytale connects via the QUIC protocol over UDP; players don't need to open any ports on their home router.

Yes. Hytale mods come as .zip or .jar files, for example from CurseForge, and go into the mods folder in the server directory. You can upload them in the browser via the web file manager or via SFTP, then restart the server. Hytale relies on server-side modding: the content is sent by the server when players connect, so your friends usually don't have to install anything themselves. Because Hytale is under active development, expect individual mods to lag behind briefly after a big update - then take them out of the folder temporarily until the authors have caught up.

Yes. In Hytale, worlds and player data live in the universe folder, the playable worlds inside it under universe/worlds. Stop the server, upload the world folder to this location via SFTP or the web file manager and restart. It is important that world and server use the same game version - if in doubt, open the world once in the current client beforehand.

Yes, Hytale is designed for it: one server manages a universe, and several worlds can sit side by side in it. Each world has its own config.json in which you set seed, PvP, fall damage and NPC spawning, among other things. That way you can run a peaceful building world next to a PvP world. Each world runs on its own thread - so if you plan several active worlds, pick a bigger plan.

With the whitelist: whitelist.json lists all players who may join. Banned players end up in bans.json, and you grant permissions for moderators and admins via permissions.json or directly with a command in the game. A tip from the Hytale documentation: the server reads these files on start and rewrites them when they change in the game - so edit them while the server is stopped, otherwise your changes are overwritten.

Yes. When connecting, Hytale checks whether client and server use exactly the same protocol version - if not, the connection is refused. After an update the server has to follow promptly, otherwise players with the new client can no longer get in. That is exactly why we update your server automatically; worlds, configuration and mods are kept.

Yes, the Hytale server automatically backs up your world on your server - you don't have to take care of that. These backups are stored on the same server as the world itself, though. For emergencies it is therefore worth keeping your own copy as well: download the universe folder with worlds and player data plus config.json, permissions.json, whitelist.json and bans.json now and then via SFTP or the web file manager - especially before a big update or before trying new mods.

When you play via the game itself, the world runs on one player's computer: if they are offline, the world is gone, and everyone depends on their connection. A dedicated server runs around the clock in the data center - anyone can keep playing at any time, ping is equally low for everyone and nobody has to leave their PC running. On top of that you get things only your own server offers: whitelist, permission management, mods for everyone and multiple worlds.

After a successful order, our automated system activates your server in around 120 seconds. On the first start you confirm the link and code once with your Hytale account, share the address with your friends and get going.
