Mods & EAC: from modlets to Darkness Falls

7 Days to Die has a lively modding scene. You put mods into the Mods folder of your server - via the web file manager in your browser or via SFTP. Two kinds of mods matter:

  • Server-side modlets - quests, quality of life, extra zombies. They often run without any changes for players and with EAC enabled.
  • Overhaul mods - large conversions like Darkness Falls, Undead Legacy or War of the Walkers. They need EAC switched off, more RAM and matching client files for every player.

You set the EasyAntiCheat (EAC) switch in serverconfig.xml: on for vanilla and pure modlets, off for DLL-based overhauls. That way you decide yourself how deeply your server is modified.

Modding at a glance

  • Mods via FTP into the Mods folder
  • Server-side modlets: EAC can stay on
  • Overhauls: EAC off + client files
  • EAC switch in serverconfig.xml

Navezgane or random world - your world, your rules

Every 7 Days to Die server starts with a world. You decide whether you play the hand-made map or a randomly generated one:

Navezgane

The fixed, hand-made map with well-known points of interest, towns and landmarks. Predictable and beginner-friendly - you know where the good loot spots are.

RWG (random world generation)

A world generated randomly from a seed, in a size of your choice. Every server becomes unique - more variety, somewhat higher resource needs. Controlled via WorldGenSeed and WorldGenSize.

You set world, seed and size in serverconfig.xml via the config editor. Difficulty, day/night length and the blood moon frequency (the 7-day cycle) are set there too.

Server types: from vanilla co-op to overhaul

With game rules, PvP settings and mods you define the character of your server. Guidelines for choosing a plan:

Server type Description Recommended plan
Vanilla co-opThe unmodified survival experience with blood moon hordes, as The Fun Pimps intended.7DtD S / M
PvE communityCooperative building, farming and base building together without player damage.7DtD M / L
PvPPlayer versus player - loot fights, raids and constant competition on the map.7DtD M / L
Server modletsServer-side mods (quests, QoL, zombies) - often playable without client changes.7DtD M / L
Overhaul modsLarge conversions like Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy - EAC off, more RAM, client files.7DtD L / XL

Guidelines for sizing: what counts is world size, zombie count (especially during the blood moon horde) and mod load. Large overhaul mods need considerably more RAM than vanilla co-op - if in doubt, choose one level bigger. Prices per plan are on What does a 7 Days to Die server cost?.

Mods & overhauls

From server-side modlets to large overhauls like Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy - mods via FTP into the Mods folder, EAC under your control.

EAC under your control

You enable or disable EasyAntiCheat in serverconfig.xml - on for vanilla and crossplay, off for DLL-based overhaul mods.

Navezgane & random worlds

Play the hand-made Navezgane map or generate a random world from a seed in a size of your choice - both right in the config editor.

Config editor

Adjust server name, password, port, slots, difficulty and blood moon frequency comfortably in serverconfig.xml with the editor in the web interface.

RCON & Telnet

Admin commands at runtime via Telnet/RCON: kick, ban, broadcast or trigger events - for clean moderation of your community.

Web file manager & SFTP

Full access to serverconfig.xml, saves and the Mods folder - via the web file manager in your browser or with an SFTP client. Upload mods, back up your save.

High performance

Fast CPUs with high single-thread performance and NVMe SSDs keep the server smooth - even with random worlds and a full blood moon horde.

DDoS protection

Our DDoS protection filters attacks of up to 250 Gbit/s - especially important for popular PvP and community servers.

Frequently asked questions - 7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die is one of the more demanding survival titles. Vanilla co-op with a few players runs solidly on a medium amount of RAM, while large overhaul mods like Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy need considerably more memory - especially with randomly generated worlds (RWG) and many zombies during the blood moon horde. The plan structure is a good guide: S/M for vanilla and light modlets, L/XL for overhaul mods and large communities. If in doubt, choose one level bigger - you can upgrade at any time without losing data.

Yes. You put mods into the Mods folder of your server - via the web file manager in your browser or via SFTP. There are two kinds: server-side modlets (quests, QoL, extra zombies) often run without changes for players. Large overhaul mods like Darkness Falls, Undead Legacy or War of the Walkers go deeper: they need EasyAntiCheat (EAC) switched off, noticeably more RAM and matching client files for every player.

EasyAntiCheat (EAC) is the anti-cheat protection of 7 Days to Die. For a pure vanilla server or purely server-side modlets, EAC stays on. As soon as you use DLL-based mods or large overhauls (Darkness Falls, Undead Legacy), you have to disable EAC in serverconfig.xml - otherwise these mods are blocked. You can find the setting in the config editor of your server.

Navezgane is the hand-made, fixed map with well-known points of interest - ideal for beginners and predictable rounds. RWG (random world generation) creates a random world from a seed in a size of your choice - more variety, but somewhat higher resource needs. You control both in serverconfig.xml via GameWorld plus WorldGenSeed and WorldGenSize.

7 Days to Die is set to 8 players by default; you can raise the number via ServerMaxPlayerCount in serverconfig.xml. What matters for choosing a plan, however, is not the player count alone but the combination of world size, zombie count (especially during the blood moon horde) and mod load. Large communities with overhaul mods need more RAM than a small vanilla co-op group.

All important settings are in serverconfig.xml: ServerName, ServerPassword, ServerPort (default 26900), ServerMaxPlayerCount, the world (GameWorld, WorldGenSeed, WorldGenSize), difficulty, day/night length, blood moon frequency and the EAC switch. You edit them comfortably in the config editor of the web interface or via FTP/SFTP.

Crossplay between PC, Xbox and PlayStation players is possible, but it requires EasyAntiCheat (EAC) to be enabled and unmodified game files - in other words, a vanilla server without DLL mods. As soon as you use large overhaul mods and switch EAC off, the server is limited to PC players with the matching mod files.

Yes. Via the web file manager in your browser or an SFTP client you have full access to serverconfig.xml, world files and the Mods folder. You also get Telnet/RCON for admin commands at runtime - to kick, ban, broadcast or trigger events. You can find the credentials in the web interface.

Automatic backups are not part of the plan - instead you have full control: you back up your save (the Saves directory) and configuration yourself at any time via SFTP or the web file manager in your browser, and restore them immediately when needed.

After a successful order, our automated system activates your 7 Days to Die server in around 120 seconds. You can upgrade to a bigger plan at any time later; world, mods and configuration are fully kept.
