What Chapter I brings

Hypixel describes the chapter as the first major wave of content in early access. For a group on its own server, these points are the most interesting:

• Goblin Breach: temporary portals lead to an unstable fragment of Orbis that regenerates each time you enter. After a while, the Void pushes you out.
• Guttering Hollows: a new biome with prey to hunt, Void assassins, puzzles and chests that trigger waves of enemies.
• Runestones: a new ability system with seven Ability Runestones and eight Modifier Runestones at launch. Abilities cost mana, which regenerates on its own.
• The Deepworks: the first handcrafted dungeon, with the Feastmaster and the multi-phase boss Gobliterator.
• Goblin gear: Scrap Drill, Scrap Glider, Rocket Boots, Hookshot and Spyglass, plus a repair kit that spares maximum durability.

Does our world keep running?

Yes. Hypixel explicitly names both routes: the chapter starts in an existing Exploration Mode world as well as in a new one. So you do not have to start over.

The way in is at the Forgotten Temple. There, you explore the new Goblin Lab and unlock the content of the chapter. A dedicated chapter screen shows which objective comes next and what it unlocks. So plan a joint trip to the temple for your group rather than looking for new content on your doorstep.

Back up your world before an update of this size anyway. The server does create its own backups, but they sit on the same server. A copy of universe and the JSON files belongs somewhere else, and you download it via WebFTP or SFTP.

Update and protocol

Chapter I changes the network protocol. A client on the new state and a server on an old state therefore cannot talk to each other. Our Hytale servers are updated automatically, so you do not have to worry about the game itself.

Anyone who has switched the launcher to a pre-release state plays a different version from the server and is turned away. Hypixel is already distributing pre-release versions of the next update. For playing on the server, the launcher belongs on the regular version.

Controlling world events

The Goblin Breach counts as a world event. With the /worldevent command, you switch such events on or off for a world, and you can also start or cancel them specifically. That is useful for a pure building world or a group that does not want to be interrupted while building. /help worldevent shows the exact form for your version.

Other commands have moved too. /leave is now /portal leave, and /give has an optional parameter for quality. The server itself always shows the full list with /help, which is more up to date than any overview on the web.

Hardcore, spectators and whitelist from Update 6

If you have not looked at your server for a while, Chapter I also gives you the changes from Update 6 of 27 August 2026:

• Hardcore: Permadeath, Three Strikes, Nine Lives and Soulbound are available when creating a world. Anyone who dies drops their inventory and moves to spectator mode. You cannot switch an existing world this way afterwards, as the dropdown only exists at creation.
• Spectators: they are invisible and ignored by NPCs.
• Mod browser: the main menu now contains a browser for mods. On the server, the route stays the same: mods go in the mods folder.
• Whitelist: it now runs on the hytale.server.join permission rather than on whitelist.json. /help whitelist shows the commands for your version.

Mods after Chapter I

When the protocol changes, servers and plugins have to be rebuilt. A mod that ran before the update can prevent the server from starting afterwards. Our servers keep the game up to date automatically, but not your mods: you renew them yourself in the mods folder.

1. If the server no longer starts, take the mods out of the mods folder and start it without them.
2. Get updated versions from each author.
3. Put the mods back one at a time so that you find the culprit.

The minigames Prop Hunt and Shuffle Jam, on the other hand, do not run on your server. You reach them via the main menu and Hypixel matchmaking. Your own minigames via the mod browser have been announced but are not available yet.
