Join an Enshrouded server - and what to do if it doesn't show upServer list, filters, Steam favourites and the most common mistakes

Joining an Enshrouded server is quick once you know two things: dedicated servers are hidden in the in-game server list by default, and nobody gets in without the password of a user group. This guide shows the normal route, the reliable detour via Steam favourites and what to do when the server simply doesn't appear.

What you need first

To join, every player needs three things from the server owner:

  • The server name - as entered in the game server panel under startup parameters. Players search the list for it.
  • The server address made of IP and port - you find it in the web interface after provisioning. Enshrouded's default port is 15637; with us, the port assigned to your server always applies.
  • The password of a user group - Enshrouded has no single server password but groups such as admin, friends and guests. The password someone enters decides their permissions. How that works is explained in User groups, password and private server.

Players don't need to open any ports on their home router. One thing matters, though: Enshrouded connects via IPv4. Anyone online exclusively via IPv6, as with some mobile or fibre connections without an IPv4 share, cannot reach the server.

The normal route: the in-game server list

  1. In the Enshrouded main menu, choose Join.
  2. Open the server filter on the right and switch on the option for dedicated servers.
  3. Enter the server name in the search.
  4. Select the server, enter your group's password and join.

The second step is where most people fail. Keen Games points out in its own server FAQ that dedicated servers only appear once this filter option is active. It applies per player: if one person in the group sees the server and another doesn't, this is almost always the reason.

The other filters can hide a working server too - for example the filters for password-protected servers, sessions with Steam friends, empty servers or a minimum number of free slots. If you can't find the server, reset the filter completely once and switch on only the option for dedicated servers.

The list also sorts in a fixed order: favourite servers first, then friends' sessions, then dedicated servers and finally games a player hosts directly from the game. In a long list, a dedicated server therefore sits below every friend session. That is exactly why the next section is worth it.

The reliable route: the server as a Steam favourite

Keen itself describes a detour for the case where a dedicated server doesn't show up in the list: you add it as a favourite in the Steam client. Enshrouded shows favourite servers at the very top of the list - regardless of sorting and filters.

  1. Look up the server address made of IP and port in the web interface.
  2. In the Steam client, open View → Game Servers.
  3. Switch to the Favorites tab and click the plus symbol at the bottom.
  4. Enter the address in the format IP:port, both separated by a colon, and confirm.
  5. Start Enshrouded and open Join - the server is now at the top.

For a regular group this is the best solution: post the address in your Discord once, everyone adds it as a favourite, and the search is gone for good. How the address is made up of IP and port and why the port belongs to it is explained in Ports & firewall.

The server doesn't appear - checklist

Work through the points in this order. The first ones are the most common:

  • Is the server running at all? Check in the web interface whether it has started. Right after a restart or an update it needs a moment until the world has loaded.
  • Dedicated server filter on? Check it for each player individually, see above.
  • Right port? Whoever shares the address uses the port from the web interface, not the default 15637.
  • Same game version? After a patch, your server updates automatically with us. Players whose client hasn't updated yet restart Steam once.
  • Does the server start cleanly? An error in enshrouded_server.json prevents the start; the console then names the wrong value. More in Server settings.
  • Server full? If the set number of players is reached or groups keep slots free via reservedSlots, further players can't get in.

The server is visible, but one player can't get in

If everyone sees the server and only one person fails, the cause lies with that player or their password:

  • Wrong or old password. If the group passwords were changed, the old ones no longer work. The player needs the current password of their group.
  • Banned. If the account is in bannedAccounts, it is rejected. You remove the entry while the server is stopped.
  • Wrong platform. Enshrouded 1.0 was released without crossplay. PS5 players cannot connect to a PC server, and the Xbox version only arrives in 2027.
  • Stuttering and disconnects while travelling. That is usually not a connection problem but load on the server. What helps then is in Enshrouded server lagging?.

By the way: your character always comes along. Keen stores character progression on the player's computer; the server only holds the world. Anyone joining a new server therefore brings their level, skills and inventory with them.

Frequently asked questions

Usually because dedicated servers are hidden in the server list by default. Switch on the option for dedicated servers in the server filter on the right. If that doesn't help, add the server in the Steam client under View, Game Servers, Favorites with IP:port - then it is at the very top.

The reliable way to do that is the Steam favourite: you enter the address made of IP and port once in the Steam client, and Enshrouded then shows the server at the very top of the list.

Yes. Enshrouded works with user groups, each with its own password. The password you enter when joining decides which permissions you have on the server.

Yes. In Enshrouded, character progression is stored on your own computer; the server only saves the world. Level, skills and inventory come along automatically.
