Cobbleverse server hostingThe adventure modpack built on Cobblemon, with gyms, badges and raids

Cobbleverse turns the collecting mod Cobblemon into a guided adventure: four regions with their own gyms and badges, an Elite Four and champions, raids of up to seven stars and more than 200 rideable creatures. Unlike with the plain mod, the whole pack belongs on the server here - the gyms, structures and battles live in its content. The developers recommend at least 6 GB for servers, so for a private group plan L at €11.99 / month is the right fit.

How Cobbleverse differs from the plain Cobblemon mod

The Cobblemon mod brings the creatures, catching and battles into Minecraft and leaves the rest to you. Cobbleverse adds a game structure on top: the world is split into the regions Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh, each with gyms, leaders and badges, and at the end you face the Elite Four and the champion. On top of that come raids from one to seven stars, Mega Evolution, Dynamax and Tera, custom structures and a custom soundtrack.

For the server, this leads to the key difference from the mod page: with Cobblemon alone, the server can stay lean because the official modpack mostly adds comfort on the client. With Cobbleverse, the gyms, trainers and structures live in the pack itself. If the server only runs Cobblemon, players can still connect but won't find any gyms. The whole pack belongs on the server - and that explains the higher memory requirement.

Two defaults stand out on first launch: hostile mobs and hunger are switched off in the pack by default. If you want classic survival alongside collecting, change that on the server yourself. For a group with younger players, the default is usually exactly right.

A fixed version chain: pack, Cobblemon, Fabric

Cobbleverse bundles a specific Cobblemon version with extensions tuned to exactly that version. This is the most common source of trouble on self-run servers: if you swap the Cobblemon file in the mods/ folder for a newer one because it just came out, you break the dependencies of the other mods. Always update the whole pack, never single files from it.

The same goes for your players. Everyone needs the same Cobbleverse version as the server, otherwise the server rejects them with a list of mismatched mods. Share the version number together with the address when you invite your group, and announce updates in advance. How to change versions cleanly is covered in Change version - with a modpack, that always means: backup first, then the pack change.

Because Cobbleverse is only released for Fabric, only Fabric mods run alongside it. Bukkit and Spigot plugins don't work; permissions and land claims come from Fabric mods. The basics are in Fabric server.

Conditions for public servers

Cobbleverse is not under a free license; all rights remain with the developers. For a private group, that doesn't matter. If you are planning a public server, you should know two conditions from the project page: public servers with a paid shop may not use the content created specifically for the pack, and the server may not present itself under the name "COBBLEVERSE Server".

In practice: a public server without paid offers and with its own name is the straightforward route. If you plan ranks or perks for money, check the current conditions on the project page first - they can change with new versions. For visibility in server lists, a custom server icon and your own domain help more than the pack name.

Which plan for Cobbleverse?

The thresholds below apply to this pack - a light Vanilla+ pack and a kitchen-sink pack with a hundred running machines behave completely differently. You can upgrade at any time without losing data and only pay the difference.

Group Plan RAM Price Why Order
2-5 players, private Plan L 8 GB €11.99 / month The developers recommend 6 GB for servers - 8 GB leave headroom for raids and several regions. Order L
6-15 players Plan XL 16 GB €21.99 / month Players spread across several regions, parallel battles and raids keep many areas loaded at once. Order XL
Public server Plan XL 16 GB €21.99 / month Many active players plus extra Fabric mods for permissions and land claims. Order XL
Solo to try it out Plan L 8 GB €11.99 / month Even alone, the server loads the complete pack - below 8 GB it gets tight quickly. Order L

The memory is taken proportionally from the plan via -XX:MaxRAMPercentage - you don't need to maintain a fixed -Xmx. The basics are covered in the RAM guide.

Setting up Cobbleverse on the server

  1. Stop the server in the web interface. Setup and version changes only apply while the server is stopped.
  2. In the guided setup, choose Fabric for Minecraft 1.21.1.
  3. Install Cobbleverse via the installer from Modrinth or CurseForge - the complete pack, not just the Cobblemon mod.
  4. Under Startup, check in the Docker Image field that Java 21 is active.
  5. Start the server and wait for Done in the console. The first start takes longer because Fabric registers the mods and structures.
  6. Connect via IP and port. Your players install the same Cobbleverse version in their launcher.

Common pitfalls with Cobbleverse

Players connect, but there are no gyms

Cause: The server only runs the Cobblemon mod instead of the complete pack. Gyms, trainers and structures are part of the pack.

Fix: Install Cobbleverse completely via the installer. Structures only appear in newly explored areas - chunks that already exist stay as they are.

Server no longer starts after a mod update

Cause: A single file, usually Cobblemon itself, was swapped for a newer one. The pack's other mods expect exactly the bundled version.

Fix: Put the original file from the pack back, or move the whole pack to the next Cobbleverse version. Other start errors are covered in Server not starting.

Server stops on start with a version error

Cause: An older Java version is set. Minecraft 1.21.1 requires Java 21.

Fix: Under Startup, set the Docker Image to Java 21 and restart. Background in Change Java version.

A player is rejected with a list of mods

Cause: Their Cobbleverse version differs from the server's, or they use the plain Cobblemon mod instead of the pack.

Fix: Install the same pack version as the server. The general causes are covered in Fix connection errors.

Frequently asked questions about Cobbleverse

Yes. Unlike with the plain Cobblemon mod, gyms, trainers, raids and structures live in the pack itself. If the server only runs Cobblemon, exactly this content is missing.

The developers recommend at least 6 GB for servers. For a private group, plan L with 8 GB is the sensible starting point; for larger or public servers, plan XL with 16 GB.

No. Cobbleverse is only released for Fabric on Minecraft 1.21.1. If you need NeoForge, use the plain Cobblemon mod in its NeoForge edition.

For the full adventure, a new world is the right start. Cobbleverse structures appear as new areas are explored - a map you have already explored won't get them there afterwards. Back up the old world in any case.

Yes, with conditions: according to the project page, servers with a paid shop may not use the content created specifically for the pack, and the server may not be called COBBLEVERSE Server.
