Plans & pricesA large pack on Fabric - what that means
Most extensive modpacks are built on Forge or NeoForge. Prominence II uses Fabric, the lightweight loader known for fast starts and performance mods. As the server operator, that has three consequences for you.
First, Forge mods don't fit. If you want to extend the pack with a favourite mod, you need its Fabric version for Minecraft 1.20.1 - if there isn't one, the mod stays out. Second, what applies to every mod loader applies here: Bukkit and Spigot plugins don't run. Administration, permissions and protection features come from Fabric mods. Third, the correct loader has to be selected in the panel. A Forge server won't load the pack, and the error message is rarely self-explanatory.
The Minecraft plans in general and what drives their price - software and mods rather than the player count - are explained in How much does a Minecraft server cost?.
Progress belongs to the character, not the base
In a building pack, progress lives in machines and storage. In Prominence II, it lives in the character: via the talent tree, you choose a direction, unlock passive talents and active abilities and assign attribute points. On top of that come artifact weapons from the Primordial Forge that grow with you, and bosses whose difficulty can be increased.
That matters for the server for two reasons. This progress is saved together with the world. A backup is therefore worth more than in a building pack, where a lost base can be rebuilt if necessary - here it contains the hours every single player has put into their character. Back up the entire server directory regularly via SFTP or the web file manager.
And: resetting the world is a bigger cut here than elsewhere, because the characters start over along with the map. If you want a new world after a pack update, clear it with your group first.
Enemies grow with the group
Prominence II scales enemies in multiplayer. A bigger group therefore doesn't face the same enemies as a solo player, and the pack stays challenging even with five. For planning, that means: it is easiest if the group starts in the line-up it wants to play in. Anyone who joins later starts with a fresh character and first has to catch up in the campaign.
The group size still affects the server load mainly in a different way. The campaigns send the players through the world, and every newly entered area is generated and saved. A group that travels together puts less load on the server than the same number of players spreading out in all directions. A moderate view distance in server.properties is the most effective lever at no extra cost.
If it stutters despite free memory, the cause is the tick rate and therefore the performance per core. A profiler mod for Fabric shows whether the server reaches its 20 ticks per second and which part of the world is holding it back.
Which plan for Prominence II?
The thresholds below apply to this pack - a light Vanilla+ pack and a kitchen-sink pack with a hundred running machines behave completely differently. You can upgrade at any time without losing data and only pay the difference.
| Group | Plan | RAM | Price | Why | Order |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-4 players | Plan L | 8 GB | €11.99 / month | For a small group that works through the campaign together. | Order L |
| 5-10 players | Plan XL | 16 GB | €21.99 / month | Several squads in different areas keep a lot of world loaded at once. | Order XL |
| Public server | Plan XL | 16 GB | €21.99 / month | Many players at different stages, wide exploration. | Order XL |
| Just to try it out | Plan L | 8 GB | €11.99 / month | Plan M is too small for a pack of this scope. | Order L |
The memory is taken proportionally from the plan via -XX:MaxRAMPercentage - you don't need to maintain a fixed -Xmx.
Setting up Prominence II on the server
- Stop the server in the web interface - setup and version changes only apply while the server is stopped.
- In the guided setup, choose Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1 - not Forge.
- Search for Prominence II in the installer from CurseForge or Modrinth and install it.
- Under Startup, check in the Docker Image field that Java 17 is active.
- Start the server and wait for
Donein the console. With a pack of this size, the first start takes several minutes. - Connect via IP and port. All players need the same pack version as the server.
Common pitfalls with Prominence II
Server doesn't load the mods
Cause: Forge or NeoForge is selected in the panel. Prominence II is a Fabric pack.
Fix: Stop the server and switch to Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1 in the guided setup.
An extra mod stops the server from starting
Cause: The mod only exists as a Forge version or doesn't match Minecraft 1.20.1.
Fix: Look for the Fabric version for 1.20.1. If there is none, remove the mod again - the console log names the file that caused the abort.
Talents and progress are gone after a world reset
Cause: The characters' progress is saved together with the world. A new world also starts over for the characters.
Fix: Back up the entire server directory before every reset and agree with your group whether everyone really wants to start over.
Players can no longer join after an update
Cause: Client and server run different pack versions.
Fix: Pass the server's pack version on to your group and only install updates by agreement.
