Option 1: 1 click in the panel
- Stop the server and open the Minecraft setup in the panel.
- Choose CurseForge or Modrinth as the source and search for the pack or mods you want.
- Confirm the installation - the matching Minecraft and loader version (Forge, Fabric or NeoForge) and all dependencies are set up automatically.
- Start the server. On the first start, the loader sets itself up completely - with large packs, this can take a few minutes.
You check for updates to installed packages in the panel at the push of a button. That way, you stay up to date without reloading anything manually.

If you use a pack from the FTB App, from Technic or your own selection, upload it manually:
- Download the modpack's matching server pack (not the client pack).
- Stop the server and upload the files via SFTP or WebFTP into the main directory - including the
mods/folder and configurations. - Make sure the start file/loader matches the pack version and start the server.
If you want to put together your own pack mod by mod, you will find the complete process - choosing the loader via server type, sorting out client mods, passing the pack on to your fellow players - in Create your own modpack.
Choose the right plan
Modded Minecraft is memory and CPU intensive. Small packs run from plan M (4 GB), medium ones such as ATM9 well on plan L (8 GB), very large ones such as ATM10 on plan XL (16 GB). An overview of popular packs with RAM recommendations is on our modpack page.
Players need the same pack
A modpack is not a purely server-side matter: every fellow player installs the same pack in the same version on their side. Unlike with plugins, this does not work without the players doing something.
In practice, this works via a launcher - CurseForge, Prism or similar. There, your fellow players search for the pack, install it with one click and start Minecraft from it. It is important that everyone uses the same pack version: a pack that has updated from 1.4 to 1.5 no longer matches a server still running 1.4.
So give your group the pack name and version number, not just the name. That saves you the most common question of all - and the case where someone suddenly cannot join after an automatic launcher update.
Updates: the tricky part
A modpack update is the riskiest intervention on a Minecraft server, because mods write blocks and items into the world. If a mod is dropped in the update, its blocks disappear - in the worst case together with the buildings that stood on them.
- Stop the server and back up the world. Backups are self-service with us throughout, via WebFTP or SFTP, see Create backups.
- Read the pack's changelog. If it says that mods were removed, plan a fresh start instead of an update.
- Update the server, then inform the group - everyone has to switch at the same time.
- Before reopening, briefly check whether the bases are complete.
Within an ongoing session, not updating at all is usually the wiser decision. A pack that works does not have to be on the latest version - and the next wipe is the natural moment for a version jump.
If the server does not start
With modpacks, there are three typical causes. Too little memory is the most common: the server starts up but aborts while loading. Large packs need much more than you would think - one tier bigger usually solves it immediately.
Wrong loader. The pack expects a specific Forge or Fabric version. If it differs, the start aborts with a message about the mod list.
Client mods on the server. Some mods are purely meant for display and do not run on the server. Ready-made server packs do not contain them in the first place - if you upload the client version, you bring them along.
In all three cases, the server log names the reason including the mod name. A look there saves much more time than trying out different start parameters. More causes are collected in Server does not start.
