Activating RCON
RCON (remote console) lets you control your server remotely. Activate it in PalWorldSettings.ini:
- Set
RCONEnabled=True. - Set
RCONPort=25575(or a port of your own). - Assign an
AdminPassword- it also serves as the RCON password. - Restart the server. Then connect with an RCON client.
Palworld server hosting from €7.99 / month
Prepaid without a contract, DDoS protection up to 250 Gbit/s.
View plans & pricesThe most important admin commands
| Command | Function |
|---|---|
/Info | Shows server information. |
/ShowPlayers | Lists all currently connected players with name and SteamID. |
/Save | Saves the world manually. |
/Broadcast {message} | Sends a message to all players. Via RCON, the message stops at the first space - join the words with underscores. |
/KickPlayer {SteamID} | Kicks a player from the server. |
/BanPlayer {SteamID} | Bans a player permanently. |
/TeleportToPlayer {SteamID} | Teleports you to a player. |
/TeleportToMe {SteamID} | Teleports a player to you. |
/Shutdown {seconds} {message} | Shuts the server down with an announcement once the time has run out. |
/DoExit | Stops the server immediately (without a countdown). |
In the game, you enter the commands in the console with a leading /. With an RCON client, you use the same command names for remote management.
In the game or via RCON - what makes sense when
Both ways lead to the same commands, but differ considerably in practice. In the game, you log in once with the AdminPassword (see Become admin) and type the commands directly into the console. That is the fastest way if you are online anyway - for example to teleport someone away from a spot in their base where they are stuck.
Via RCON, you control the server without starting Palworld. That is the way for everything planned: an announced restart, a manual /Save before a risky change, or a ban that cannot wait until you are back at your computer. Discord bots and monitoring tools also talk to the server exclusively via RCON.
Connecting an RCON client
Lean command-line tools such as mcrcon or rcon-cli are just as suitable as clients as graphical management interfaces. All of them need the same three details:
- Address: the IP of your server as shown in the web interface.
- Port: the
RCONPortfrom PalWorldSettings.ini - not the game port that players use to join. - Password: the
AdminPassword. Palworld has no separate RCON password.
A connection test with /Info immediately shows whether the combination is right: if the server name comes back, the connection is established. If the response stays empty or the connection drops immediately, the port is usually wrong or the server was not restarted after the change.
What the vanilla console cannot do
The command set above is complete - and shorter than many expect. The official dedicated server comes with no /give, /spawn or /settime. So handing out items, summoning Pals or changing the time of day is not possible via the console. If you need that, there is no way around server-side mods.
Nor can game rules be changed at runtime: experience rate, damage multipliers or Pal density are set in PalWorldSettings.ini and only take effect after a restart. And you can neither back up nor restore the world itself via the console - for that, you fetch the save folder via WebFTP or SFTP, as described in the guide Transfer a world.
Three stumbling blocks
- Broadcast gets cut off: via RCON,
/Broadcastends at the first space. Join the words with underscores -/Broadcast Restart_in_5_minutesarrives in full. - SteamID instead of player name:
/KickPlayerand/BanPlayerexpect the SteamID, not the displayed name./ShowPlayersshows both side by side. - Shutdown without saving:
/DoExitends the server immediately. Everything since the last automatic save is lost. Run a/Savefirst, or use/Shutdown 60 Restartso that Palworld writes the world itself.
