Bedrock Edition or Java Edition?
Minecraft comes in two versions: the Java Edition runs on PC and is the basis for plugins, Forge/Fabric mods and the large modpacks. The Bedrock Edition runs on consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch), smartphones/tablets and the Windows version - and that is exactly what a Bedrock server is for. Instead of plugins, Bedrock uses add-ons (behavior and resource packs) to customize gameplay and content.
With us, you choose "Vanilla Bedrock" in the setup. The official Bedrock Dedicated Server (BDS) is downloaded and set up on the first start. You then configure server.properties, player limit, world and game mode conveniently in the panel.
Bedrock server hosting from €2.99 / month
Prepaid without a contract, DDoS protection up to 250 Gbit/s.
View plans & pricesSwitch from Java to Bedrock - and back
You rented a Java server and notice that your group plays on console and phone after all? You do not need a new server for that. In the game server panel, you switch to Bedrock yourself under the item server type, without a ticket and at no extra cost - the switch is included with our game servers. The route works in both directions: from Bedrock, you can just as well return to Vanilla, Paper, Spigot or Purpur.
Unlike switching between the Java types, the edition switch is a complete reinstallation. Java and Bedrock store worlds in different formats, use their own version numbers and different keys in server.properties. This is why all files are deleted when switching: world, configuration, plugins or add-ons. Whatever you want to keep, back up beforehand via SFTP or WebFTP - how that works is shown in Create backups yourself. The new server then starts with a fresh world. Whether the step is worth it or whether crossplay via Paper is the better solution is weighed up in Java vs. Bedrock.
Crossplay: Java and Bedrock players together
Do you want PC players (Java) and console/phone players (Bedrock) to play together on the same server? Then a pure Bedrock server is not the right route - instead, you set up a Paper server with Geyser and Floodgate. Geyser translates between the two editions, Floodgate lets Bedrock players join without a Java account. You enable this setup with us directly in the panel.
What things are called differently on a Bedrock server
A Bedrock server is managed with the same tools as a Java server - console, online config editor, WebFTP and restart scheduler. The files in it have different names, though. Access restriction lives in allowlist.json instead of a whitelist file, you assign operator rights via permissions.json, and server.properties has its own keys such as level-name, gamemode, difficulty and server-port.
Content comes onto the server as add-ons: a behavior pack changes behaviour and game rules, a resource pack changes look and sound. You put both via SFTP or WebFTP into the folders behavior_packs/ and resource_packs/ and then enable them for your world via the files world_behavior_packs.json and world_resource_packs.json in the world folder. Purchased Marketplace content cannot be transferred to your own server - it stays tied to the game account.
What does not exist on Bedrock at all: plugins in the Java sense, Forge or Fabric mods and the large modpacks. If you want to play a pack such as All the Mods or RLCraft, you absolutely need the Java Edition and a Forge server. Where else the two editions differ is compared in Java vs. Bedrock.
Bring your own world - and the limits of crossplay
Bedrock and Java worlds use different storage formats and cannot be swapped for each other. You export a world from the Bedrock app as a .mcworld file; unpacked, the folder goes via SFTP or WebFTP into worlds/, then you enter its name in server.properties under level-name and restart. The detailed process is shown in Upload your own world; backing up is explained in Create backups yourself - we deliberately do not offer automatic backups, but you have full file access at any time.
With crossplay via Paper with Geyser and Floodgate, things are the other way round: there, a Java server is actually running, and Bedrock players are merely translated. Java plugins therefore keep working, Bedrock add-ons do not, and the world remains a Java world. A pure Bedrock server, conversely, is the simpler setup because there is no translation layer in between - but PC players with a Java account are left out. Which of the two routes suits your group is clarified in Set up crossplay.
In both cases, you connect via the fixed server address made of IP and port, which you can see in the panel at any time. On consoles, adding your own server is more cumbersome than on PC depending on the platform; the necessary steps are described in Join a server. The Bedrock default port 19132/UDP is only a guide - what counts is always the port the panel shows for your server.
