How much does a 7 Days to Die server cost?Four plans - and why world and mods set the price

A 7 Days to Die server costs between €7.99 / month and €24.99 / month with us. Two choices decide where you land in that range: the world, meaning Navezgane or a random world of a chosen size, and whether a large overhaul is supposed to run. The player count only comes after that.

Which plan for which world?

As a guideline, 7 Days to Die needs 6 to 8 GB of memory without mods and 10 GB or more with an overhaul. That gives the following mapping:

  • Plan S for Navezgane or a small random world. This is the right entry point for a group of friends and for every crossplay group.
  • Plan M for a medium random world with modlets - or as the entry point for an overhaul such as Darkness Falls.
  • Plan L for large random worlds and groups of around 24 players.
  • Plan XL for very large worlds and overhauls with many players.

What drives the price

  • The world. Navezgane is hand-built, always the same and economical. A random world from WorldGenSeed and WorldGenSize surprises you for longer, but needs more resources - and the larger it is, the more it needs.
  • Mods. Server-side modlets usually make little difference. Large overhauls with their own DLLs are a different calibre and raise the requirement considerably.
  • The zombie count. You set how many enemies are active at the same time yourself. High values cost computing time in every tick.

A widely explored world costs permanently, regardless of how many people are online. That is why it pays to decide on the world size before the first evening: changing the world means starting over.

The blood moon night: size up or tune settings?

The blood moon night is the game's predictable load peak. If a server stutters, it is almost always then. The obvious reaction is a bigger plan - and it is often the wrong one.

If the server runs smoothly the rest of the week and only struggles on that one night, it isn't a memory problem but too many simultaneously active zombies. The levers for that are in the configuration and the SandboxCode, not in the plan: a smaller blood moon horde and a lower value for simultaneously spawned zombies. Both cost nothing.

Only when the server is also sluggish on ordinary evenings is the next plan the right answer.

Crossplay limits the group - and therefore the plan

PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox can play on the same server. The developer attaches conditions to this: EasyAntiCheat must be active, at most eight players are allowed, and several game values may only move within given ranges. The limit comes from the game, not from us.

For costs, that is good news. A crossplay group plays without DLL mods and with at most eight people - plan S for €7.99 / month is enough for that.

Conversely: if you want to play an overhaul, you switch off EAC and thereby give up console players. You can't have both.

What is included in the price

  • Navezgane and random worlds with a freely chosen seed and size.
  • Modlets and overhauls.
  • EAC can be switched on and off via the configuration.
  • Config editor, RCON and Telnet for settings and management.
  • Web file manager and SFTP for saves and mod files.
  • DDoS protection up to 250 Gbit/s, located in Frankfurt am Main, provisioned in around 120 seconds.

Backups are self-service: you download the save folder, the generated world and serverconfig.xml yourself, ideally before the first blood moon.

Keeping costs low

  • Start with Navezgane. The fixed map is the most economical world and completely sufficient for the first weeks.
  • Don't choose a bigger random world than you need. A small group never fills a very large map - it only pays for it.
  • Tune first, then upgrade. You upgrade yourself in the customer interface; world and configuration are kept.
  • Use prepaid. Without a contract you only pay while you play. Before a break, download the save folder and world and let the credit run out.

How billing without a contract works is explained on Game servers without a contract.

Frequently asked questions

At MainHoster.de, 7 Days to Die starts at €7.99 / month for plan S and goes up to €24.99 / month for plan XL. Billing is prepaid with credit, without a contract and without automatic renewal.

Plan S. According to the developer, crossplay is limited to at most eight players and requires active EAC, which rules out large overhauls. The smallest plan is enough for that group.

A large overhaul needs 10 GB of memory or more as a guideline. Plan M for €12.99 / month is the right entry point; L and XL are meant for large worlds and many players.

No. We don't charge for slots. ServerMaxPlayerCount is set to 8 by default and can be raised in serverconfig.xml.
