What the link gives you
Under Connections, Discord shows accounts such as Twitch, YouTube or Steam in your profile. Since 2023, you can also add your own domain there. Discord checks whether you really control the domain and only shows it afterwards.
- Credibility - members see that the account really belongs to
yourclan.comand is not an imitator. - One link for everything. Via the domain, visitors reach your website, your game server or your stream.
- Recognition - clan, server and Discord carry the same name.
The prerequisite is a domain on which you can set DNS records yourself. With us, DNS management with TXT records comes with every domain. If you do not have a name yet, Find the right domain name helps.
Step 1: add the domain in Discord
- In Discord, open User Settings and then Connections.
- Among the available services, choose Domain - depending on the version, you may first have to expand the list. The icon is a globe.
- Enter your domain, for example
yourclan.com. A subdomain such asteam.yourclan.comis also possible. - Discord now shows you a verification value that starts with
dh=. Leave the window open or copy the value.
Step 2: set the TXT record
You store the verification value as a TXT record on the name _discord below your domain. In DNS management, it looks like this:
Name: _discord
Type: TXT
Value: dh=8f3c… (the value from Discord)
For a subdomain, the record goes below it accordingly - for team.yourclan.com, that is _discord.team.
In our web interface, you only enter _discord in the subdomain field, choose the type TXT and paste the verification value as the target - the system adds the domain itself. If you type it in as well, you get _discord.yourclan.com.yourclan.com, and verification fails. What else TXT records do is explained in DNS records explained.
Step 3: have it checked
Back in Discord, click Verify. Discord queries the TXT record and compares it with the verification value. If both match, the domain appears in your profile immediately - you can switch its display on and off there as you wish.
If it does not work straight away, it is usually because of DNS caching: new records are often visible after a few minutes, in individual cases it takes longer. Wait briefly and try again. It is best to leave the record in place afterwards.
Alternative: verification via a file
If there is already a website behind your domain, you can also use a file instead of the DNS record. Discord offers a second option for this next to the Verify button. The file is called discord (without an extension), sits in the .well-known folder and contains the verification value:
https://yourclan.com/.well-known/discord
This requires the site to be reachable via HTTPS. On web hosting, you upload the file via FTP - see Set up FTP access. If you do not run a website, simply use the TXT record.
If verification fails
- Wrong name. The record must be called exactly
_discord, with an underscore - notdiscordand not on the main domain. - Value copied incompletely. The verification value starts with
dh=and must be in the field completely, without extra spaces. - Wrong nameservers. The record must be where the domain is actually resolved. If the nameservers point to another provider, a record with us does not help - see Change nameservers.
- Checked too early. Give the record a few minutes and then try again.
